All contestants in the final will receive 2024 Cresc. Drum Competition trophies.
Preliminary Round Rules
1. Age Categories and Registration Rules:
- The competition is divided into three age categories, based on the participant's age as of August 1, 2024:
- Junior Group: Ages 6-9
- Youth Group: Ages 10-13
- Teenager Group: Ages 14-17
- Contestants are allowed to register in a higher age category. For example, a Youth Group contestant can register for the Teenager Group.
- Contestants cannot participate in more than one age category.
2. Performance Requirements:
- Choose and record yourself performing one of the following:
a) Drum Solo (No drumless track or Metronome) (approximately 2-3 minutes)
b) Drumming with a Drumless Backing Track (approximately 2-3 minutes)
- A drumless backing track is mandatory for the (b) performance .
3. Equipment:
- Both acoustic drums and electronic kits (E-kit) are allowed for the preliminary round, as long as both the backing track and drums are clearly audible.
4. Video Guidelines:
- The video must not be edited or use MIDI.
- We advise all contestants to send us the best 3 minutes of their performance. If the performance is more than 3 minutes, we will only review the first three minutes.
5. Submission Process:
- Go to the Humantix website https://events.humanitix.com/copy-of-cresc-drum-competition-australia-2024-preliminary-round/tickets to register. When selecting the payment option, please ensure you choose the correct category for the contestant.
- Fill out the registration form with the contestant's name, parent's phone number, email address, YouTube link, and any other required information.
- All performance videos must be uploaded to YouTube. Ensure the video is set to public and that the comments section is enabled.
- Final round fees & infos will be sent to contestants via email after the preliminary round results are announced.
6. Preliminary round Deadlines:
- Preliminary round submission deadline: 17th October, 2024.
- Preliminary round results announcement: 20th October, 2024 We will also notify all contestants advancing to the finals via email.
- Finals are tentatively scheduled for 28th November 2024. Please check our website or social media platforms for the latest updates.
7. Judging Panel:
- The judging panel may include the following members: Timo Jokela, Alex Hirlian (National Jazz Winner 2018), Deva Permana.
8. Awards and Rankings:
- All contestants who competed in the preliminary round but did not advance to the finals will receive a certificate of participation. The scores and rankings of Australian participants will be publicly announced. We ask all participants to enable the comment feature on YouTube, so that the judges can provide feedback and guidance on the children's skills for improvement. Please ensure that the correct address and name are provided to ensure the accurate issuance of participant certificates.
9. Institutional Awards:
- We will also present special awards such as Best Performance Award and Best Institution Award in final. If contestants belong to an institution, please ensure to include the institution's name when registering for both the preliminary and final rounds.
10. Fees:
- Preliminary round fee: $50 per person.
- Finals fee: $200 per person.
11. Final Authority
- Cresc. Competition Australia reserves the final interpretation rights of the competition rules, including the use of contestants' likeness and videos.
2024 Cresc. Drum Competition
AUSTRALIA FINAL
We're thrilled to announce that 20 contestants from each age category will be selected during the preliminary round to advance to the Australia Final! The final event is scheduled for **28th November 2024** and will be held as a live performance in Sydney, Australia. The competition will be broadcast live on YouTube.

Equipment for the Final
Based on our survey, approximately 72.6% of Australian children use E-kits for practice and learning. Therefore, the final will feature the Roland VAD 506 Roland Premium Kit**.
Drum Set Configuration:
- Two rack toms
- One floor tom
- One Kick Drum
- One snare
- Two crash cymbals
- One ride cymbal
- All necessary hardware
Note: Please bring your own kick pedal if needed.
Performance Requirements
- Contestants must perform a piece with a backing track of their choice.
- The final round will be broadcast live on YouTube and uploaded to all major platforms. By participating, you grant us the right to use your likeness freely. We are committed to presenting all participants positively.
Judging Criteria
The final scores will be determined by three of Australia's top drummers & musicians based on the live performance. The scoring criteria include:
1. Interpretation: Accuracy in representing the style.
2. Note Accuracy: Includes dynamics and timing.
3. Stage Presence: Ability to command the style and engage the audience.
4. Difficulty and Mastery: Complexity of the piece and the contestant's mastery.
If no contestant meets the standard for first place in the finals, the first place position will remain vacant.
Note: Choosing a highly difficult piece does not guarantee a better score. Sometimes, selecting a piece that showcases your strengths is more beneficial.
Submission of Backing Tracks
Finalists must submit their backing tracks via email with name and details before November 1st, 2024. Further instructions will be provided upon notification on this website.
Prize Distribution
Prizes will be awarded on the day of the competition. Please ensure you do not leave early.
